Mr M
When ‘Mr M’ arrived at Holy Cross in November 2021, diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome, he was bed bound and needed help breathing at night. He was dependent on our nursing team for all his needs.
We are delighted to say that by December 2022 ‘Mr M’ had left Holy Cross and is now living an independent life without any support.
This impressive transformation was made possible through the extensive rehabilitation regime, devised by our therapy team, and with the support, positivity and encouragement of the nursing team. This combined approach helped ‘Mr M’ play an active role in formulating his therapy regime and setting goals.
Each week he worked with our occupational therapists doing simple hand function exercises. The team used a specially designed finger glove fitted with a splint to increase the range of joint movement possible.
‘Mr M’ worked with our physiotherapists every day. Little by little he regained strength in his legs through using specialist equipment to gradually increase his weight bearing ability, ultimately leading to him learning to walk again. Our hydrotherapy pool provided a useful tool, the support of the water helping to build confidence.
By November 2022 ‘Mr M’ was helping the nurses to decorate the ward for Christmas. In January 2023 ‘Mr M’ drove his own car back to Holy Cross to visit our staff!
