Volunteering
Every year volunteers at Holy Cross Hospital give hundreds of hours of their time towards complementing the services we provide to patients. We are truly grateful for all that they do to enhance the lives of patients.
Being on the border of three counties, we find that we attract volunteers from Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex. Our volunteers cover a wide range of age groups. Some people volunteer on an ad hoc basis while others come in on a more regular basis.
What might a volunteer be asked to do
Examples of volunteering roles include:
- Supporting patients to engage with activities such as art, music, gardening, quizzes and puzzles for leisure or as therapy or rehabilitation.
- Driving a minibus to take patients shopping, visits to the theatre or the seaside bungalow at Selsey.
Volunteer support
We hold regular volunteer evenings so you can get to know other volunteers, swap experiences and learn new skills and knowledge.
How to become a volunteer
If you would like to volunteer, please contact Nicola Phillips, Creative Therapy and Activities Lead or call her on 01428 647645.
Following an informal visit, we will invite you to complete an application form and provide details for two referees. We would love to meet you and get to know a little bit about you!
A satisfactory disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service must be obtained prior to you undertaking any activity with patients. This is to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients, which is of paramount importance when we make arrangements for voluntary work.
Once this has been satisfactorily completed, we will ask for your agreement for brief details to be held by us in confidence. This is to enable us to provide information to registration officers, insurers and the Hospital’s Advisory Committee.
You will have a description about your role so you are clear about the purpose, tasks and main requirements.
Thank you for your interest.
